About Me
My name is Rebecca Connors, and I am running as an unaffiliated candidate to be your state representative. I will work to bring forward a change in what representation looks like for the people of East Hartford.
I grew up in East Hartford off School Street, attended St. Christopher’s School, was a member of my local Girl Scout troop, and even helped with my best friend’s paper route when we were kids. During my middle school years my family moved to Glastonbury, however following my graduation from Glastonbury High School I moved back to the town I am proud to call home.
After moving back home I enrolled in Manchester Community College and obtained my Associate’s in Paralegal Studies and Paralegal Certification. Currently I am enrolled in my Bachelor’s Degree program with a major in Political Science. With my paralegal career, education, and advocacy experience I have been able to bring a unique perspective when working with people to help solve problems.
One of the best things about East Hartford is the community and people of this town. Just a few years ago, my community faced pressing issues after an explosion and fire. In the aftermath of this crisis, we immediately got together to discuss what we as a community could do and how we could work together, the topic of party lines never came up.
Throughout the years of working with my community as one of their resident representatives, we have addressed inadequate firefighting hydrants, repeated water shut offs, and lack of communication from corporate owners. In order to work towards solutions for the community, I set up meetings with corporate representatives to voice the concerns of all residents, and we continue to have meetings to address any new concerns.
In my experience, focusing on party politics and private equity interest is holding us back from working collectively towards solving pressing local problems. Our issues and concerns in this town are not partisan, they belong to our entire community, and we need politicians who truly put the interests of all people first.
