Currently the cost of living is squeezing many people and families, and the burden of services should not be increased. I believe that through relooking at services currently provided, we can make services more efficient for the people and the government. Additionally, everyone should pay their fair share of taxes, and small businesses should have better access to some of the benefits we provide to larger companies in this state. Implementing a corporate tax could risk our long-term relationships with companies in this state, jobs for people in town, but also inadvertently hurt other local businesses. Taxes are provided to our government through the hardworking families, residents, and business of Connecticut, those funds should be spent responsibly, and with the best interest of the taxpayers in mind.
Many of the solutions we currently have to address housing are not done with the populations in mind that need them the most. Housing legislation that has been previously passed intending to benefit financially strained households end up not addressing what is needed. This results in the families most in need without the help they were promised. As your representative, I would support common sense legislation to address families that are most in need and discourage loopholes that delay progress.
With rising costs of energy supply, it's important we diversify our energy sources while also protecting open land. As someone that spent their summers at a camp ground and has a deep love for the environment, advances in energy should not deprive people of their access or rights to open land and nature reserves. However, advancements for energy to reduce strain on the grid and address rising utility costs are needed. I would support legislation that would allow for us to move toward producing more energy, while not sacrificing open land or agricultural space for development.
During my time working as a paralegal in long term Medicaid, not only did I get to further understand the complex process that families must go through, but I also had the opportunity to build rapport with clients and their families while helping them through one of the most difficult times of their lives. Additionally, after looking for my own health plans on Access Health CT, our current public option is not adequately addressing those who may not be getting offered healthcare either through their jobs or by self employment. People should not have to rely on a job supplying an adequate healthcare plan. Everyone deserves to be cared for properly when needed, and the process to obtain that care can be overly complicated, costing people time and money. As your representative, I would support legislation that not only puts patients first, but also looks to address the lengthy bureaucratic process tied up in it.
Coming from a family of small business owners, I witnessed the backend of the work ethic required to run and maintain a business. We should be supporting our local businesses to ensure they are able to thrive and grow here. Allowing local businesses to grow will encourage money to stay and be spent within our local economy, as opposed to an out-of-state large corporation. I would support legislation that would help advance small businesses across Connecticut.
Technology is important to advancing our town and state; however, it is imperative we do not allow technology to replace the jobs of the hard-working people. I support the regulation of generative AI programs to reduce any potential harms to people and the environment. Furthermore, I am against legislation regarding any live surveillance type systems such as Flock cameras being installed that could violate our civil liberties.
